Glossary¶

Region: An area, usually a river basin, modelled with SWAT+. A smaller region is one model; a larger one is divided into subregions.
Subregion: A part of a region, modelled with a separate SWAT+ model. Water from an upstream subregion enters the next one downstream through a recall file.
Model version: A release of the global model. The current version is the one that receives contributions; the website offers CoSWATv2.0.0.
Layer: One model variable for one model version and climate (for example, precipitation under observed climate), shown on the map as a single global layer.
HRU: Hydrologic response unit, the smallest unit of a SWAT+ model: an area with one combination of land use, soil and slope.
LSU: Landscape unit, a group of HRUs that drains to one channel.
Channel: A reach of the river network in the model.
Slice: The part of one model that drains to a chosen outlet channel, minus the area above any chosen inlet channels. See Calibration and contributions.
Run period: The years a model run simulates, including the warm-up years at its start that are left out of the results.
Generation: One published model run of a region. Publishing a new generation replaces that region's part of each global layer.
Recall: A SWAT+ input that feeds a time series of flow and loads into a model at a channel, used for water arriving from upstream.

Why can I not see observed river flow?: Observed values are shown only to signed-in users while the licence for the observations is being settled. Simulated flow and the model's fit are public.
How long does a slice take to prepare?: A few minutes, depending on the size of the slice and on other work on the server. The slice's page updates itself; see Preparing a download.
Why does the globe not show model layers?: Model layers are shown on the flat map only. Switch Map view to Flat map in Map settings.
How long is a download kept?: 3 hours after it is ready, or 1 hour after the first download, whichever comes first.
How do I get an account?: Accounts are created by the CoSWAT team. See Accounts.
